What you should know about BTS - an overview
BTS is currently considered the most successful K-pop band of all time, with 42.8 million followers on Instagram. The seven boys from Seoul - RM, V, Suga, J-Hope, Jungkook, Jin and Jimin - made their debut in 2013 with the album "2 Cool 4 Skool". Since then, things have been steadily climbing for them. Originally, BTS was planned as a hip-hop group, but they discarded this idea rather quickly, as they want to inspire all music lovers, which is why their albums are composed of a broad mix of all music styles.
Here is an overview of the musical works of the South Korean boy band:
BTS and their ARMY
BTS stands for "Bangtan Boys" or "Bangtan-Sonyeondan", which stands for "Bulletproof Scouts". With their name they want to show that they are ready to face any criticism, as well as all expectations and stereotypes "bulletproof". Their fans, the so-called "ARMY" (A.R.M.Y.), actively support them in this. ARMY stands for "Adorable Representative M.C. for Modern Youth" and is therefore more than just a fan community, but a real movement, with membership cards and merchandise, which was officially founded on July 9, 2013. Therefore, as a sign of their gratitude for their constant support, the release of the new album is also scheduled for July 9 this year.
Birthdays of the members
While the ARMY has a birthday on July 9, the guys can celebrate the following day:
RM (Kim Namjoon) - 12.09.1994
Jin (Kim Seokjin) - 04.12.1992
Suga (Min Yoongi) - 09.03.1993
J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) - 18.02.1994
Jimin (Park Jimin) - 13.10.1995
V (Kim Taehyung) - 30.12.1995
Jungkook (Jeon Jeongguk) - 01.09.1997
All 7 members are skilled musicians and regularly manage to set new records, they even have their own emoji on Twitter. In 2019, BTS with their song "Boy With Luv" was considered the band with the most clicked music video on YouTube within one day, with incredible up to 74 million views per day. According to the Hyundai Research Institute, they even have a great impact on their home country. Almost 800,000 tourists travel to South Korea every year just because of BTS, which is almost 7% of all visitors to the country.
They managed to set another record with their own K-Pop Nugget menu, which is available at McDonalds almost everywhere except in Germany. According to McDonalds Korea, sales of Chicken McNuggets increased by an incredible 283 percent between May 27 and June 3. Sales of Oreo McFlurry have also increased by 45 percent, even though it is not part of the official K-Pop menu. The reason is that the McFlurry is a favorite of BTS member V. One BTS dish even fetched nearly $100,000 on eBay in the U.S. because one of the Chicken McNuggets resembled a character from the popular video game "Among Us."
On June 13, the band already celebrated their eighth anniversary, because exactly on this day their debut song "No More Dreams" was released. Here, however, ARMY is often unsure whether the exact date is not the 12th. However, as the band has confirmed several times, the song was actually released on June 13, 2013. The confusion arises solely due to the different time zones. For the anniversary of BTS, of course, ARMY was also generously given gifts; there was a box, which was built like an Advent calendar and counted the days until the anniversary. In total, there were 13 gifts, such as photo cards and other small surprises.
We are excited to see what other groundbreaking records BTS will set!
